The member's pensionable service date usually commences at the date of joining the scheme, or from the transfer date if the member has transferred from another scheme (refer to Transfer Details above).
Pensionable service may also be backdated by means of the member purchasing an earlier date. In this case, the member is not transferring from another scheme, but merely wishes to move pensionable service to an earlier date.
The act of backdating pensionable service has a cost attached to it, since the member’s benefit(s) may be greater due to a longer period of service. The costs for the backdating of pensionable service may be paid for in the form of a lump sum or in instalments.
From the JU3AO List of Members for a Scheme/Pay Centre screen, highlight the required member, then select Membership Details>Pensionable Service Backdate.
The JU3BO Pensionable Service Backdate screen will be displayed.
To add new backdated pensionable service, click NEW. The Pensionable Service Backdate screen will be displayed.

Instalments may be either by a fixed monthly amount or by a percentage of salary. |

The date from which instalments commenced. |

Amount |
The amount of each instalment. |

Percent of Salary |
The percentage of salary payable monthly for each instalment. |

Number of Months |
The number of months for which the instalment will be paid. |
Further information about pensionable service dates:
- The service date must be before the member’s date of joining the scheme. (Refer to START DATE on the JU3AO List of Members for a Scheme/Pay Centre screen).
- The service date must also be before any pensionable service date that may exist for the member as a result of a transfer from another scheme, regardless of the TRANSFER TYPE. (Refer to Transfer Details above).
- The service date must be earlier than the effective date. If it is not, the following error message will be displayed:
Click OK and change the service date.
- For benefit calculation purposes, the earliest date on the JU3MC Membership Transfer Details Maintain and Pensionable Service Backdated screens will be used. If neither screen displays a date, then the system will use the Date of Joining the Fund.
To view or update existing pensionable service details, highlight the required line, then click OPEN. The Pensionable Service Backdated screen will be displayed.
