Getting the Best out of Help

Overview

There are two separate HELP links available on the system. 

-         Web Site Access

-         User Manual

 

The Web Site Access help facility displays documentation about accessing the Web Site in respect of both Single Password Access and Multiple Password Access.

 

The User Manual help facility displays the user manual, which provides ccomprehensive descriptions and instructions for all functionality within the system.

 

Web site access

Click  where it appears on the main functionality menu.

 

 

Once selected, the Web Site Access Manual will open in a web browser window.

Click help where it appears on the Logon screen.

Once any selection has been made from the main menu, the user manual is also available for selection from any of the subsequent functionality screens displayed. 

 

Select the HELP hyperlink that appears via  above the menu bar.

The User Manual will open in a web browser window. 

 

 

This screen comprises two panels.  The left panel lists contents and the right panel displays text for the contents selected.

 

There are three options displayed on the menu bar:

Contents

When  is selected, the user manual contents are listed in the left panel of the screen.

 

 

The following icons are used:

Closed Book

This is a place-holder that displays the name of a book, e.g.

 

Investment

 

 

Open Book   

When you click on a book, the icon will change to display an open book, together with any sub-books and topics that may be attached.  For example, if you click on the Investments sub-book, additional sub-books and topics may be attached: 

 

 

Note:

To roll-up (close) a book that is already open, click on the open book icon.  The system will roll-up any sub-books and topics that may be associated and display the closed book icon.

 

 

Topic             

To display the contents of a sub-book topic, click the appropriate  icon.  The text associated with the topic will be displayed in the right panel.

 

The right panel displays the text for the topic selected.

 

 

Index

Click INDEX on the menu bar.  An index of all of the user manual topics is listed in alphabetical order in the left panel.  .

 

 

To search for a topic, capture the first letter of the topic name in the section called Type in the keyword to find:  

 

 

All topics for which the first word begins with that letter will be displayed at the top of the screen in alphabetical order. 

 

 

To further refine your search, include additional consecutive letters for the first word in your search.

 

 

If no topic exists for the letter or letters captured, the topic for the letters that do match will be displayed.

 

 

Search

 

Click SEARCH on the menu bar.  The Search facility is displayed.

 

The screen displays a field for you to capture text.

 

 

Capture a word, words or a phrase and click GO

 

The system will return all topics containing any of the individual words with the following exceptions:

-         Special characters, e.g. comma (,), plus (+), less than (<) etc.

-         Common words, e.g. a, the, with, on, to, etc. unless the word forms part of a phrase or group of words.

 

 

If no topic is found in the search, the message No Topics Found will be displayed on the screen.

 

 

There is also a general search facility on the on the menu bar to right of the screen.  You can also search using this search box.  Capture a part of a word, a keyword or a phrase, and click GO

 

 

The search facility will be opened.  If there is a match, the system will return all topics containing any of the individual words.   Use the search facility to make further selections as described under search above.

 

 

Searching within a topic

Once you have selected a topic, the text will be displayed in the right panel. 

 

 

To search for a part of a word, a keyword or a phrase within a selected topic, simultaneously press the keyboard buttons labelled Ctrl and F.  This will display a search feature consisting of the following fields:

 

Find (this field allows for text to be captured).

Match whole word only

Match case

Highlight all matches 

 

 

Capture a part of a word, a key word or a phrase in the Find: field, then tick the MATCH WHOLE WORD ONLY or MATCH CASE tick boxes if required, and click NEXT or PREVIOUS

NEXT will search forwards.

PREVIOUS will search backwards.

 

Note:

If Highlight all matches is ticked, then all matches will be highlighted in the text.

 

Example: Find: calc

 

 

When you click NEXT, the first match highlights the calc portion of the word calculation in the text in the right panel of the screen. 

 

 

When you click NEXT again, the second match highlights the word Calc in the text. 

 

 

Note:

If you click PREVIOUS, the calc portion of the word calculation will be highlighted in the text again. 

 

 

Managing screen panels

The help screen comprises two panels.  When you select books or topics, the text in the left panel may be partially obscured by the right panel. 

 

 

You can use the following facilities to overcome this:

 

-                     Use the bottom scroll-bar to scroll to the right. 

-                      

-                    

 

-                     Change the width of the left pane.

 

Carefully place your cursor on the right side of the left panel until the double sided arrow  icon is displayed.  Then, holding down the left button on the mouse, gently drag the panel to the desired width.

 

 

 

Similarly, you may wish to contract the left panel so that the right panel displays more text for ease of reading. 

 

Standards

The user manual conforms to the following general standards:

 

General Text Fonts

Verdana 10

Topic Headings

Verdana 14 / Bold / Green, e.g. Beneficiaries

 

This is the name of a topic.

Subject Headings

Verdana 12 / Bold / Blue, e.g. Beneficiaries with unapproved risk benefits.

 

This is the name of the heading of a section within a topic.
