Execution and Automation

Who can run this?

Anybody who has administrator access to the server.

Manual execution

The INpensions Patcher can be executed from the supplied shortcuts (Start, Programs, Bytes Software, AutoPatcher) or from the installation folder

\Program Files\Bytes Software\Tools\AutoPatch

by executing the command

INpPatcher.exe

Note:

The INpPatcher will execute even when there are no physical patches to apply.  It will however simply exit and no further configuration changes would be applied and no services would be stopped and started.

Using the EXTRACTED-ZIP method for singular files requires a manual enabling to let the INpensions Patcher know that it has work to do.  This is done by executing the INpensions Patch Enabler utility.

Automation

The INpPatcher can be executed manually as a standard executable file, or it may be added to a scheduled task to run as part of any overnight or weekly batch schedule.

The INpPatcher is compatible with execution from CA Unicentre or Control-M.

It would be advisable to run the INpPatcher every night and it will pick up all required patches when they have been released by the Vendor or the client as part of their change control schedule.

Note:

The schedule is a matter of the client’s own discretion.  It is a task outside of the INpPatcher’s own runtime executable.

Note:

As per above, the EXTRACTED-ZIP method requires enabling in order to run
